O Governo formalizou a constituição de um grupo de trabalho para o bem-estar animal, por despacho publicado esta segunda-feira, 6 de Julho, que vai estudar incentivos à esterilização, criar um representante do bem-estar animal e elaborar um relatório até Setembro.
“Reconhece-se (…) a necessidade de encorajar a detenção responsável de animais de companhia, e contribuir para minorar os problemas decorrentes da sobrepopulação animal, em especial de cães e gatos errantes, pelo que se entende ser necessário definir uma estratégia nacional para os animais errantes”, justifica o Governo no despacho, que tem efeitos retroactivos em 19 de Junho.
O grupo de trabalho vai ainda avaliar as implicações de alterações legislativas no bem-estar dos animais, como a de uma lei de 2016 que criou uma rede de centros de recolha oficial de animais e estabeleceu a proibição do abate de animais errantes como forma de controlo da população.
